The May Queen was a small
schooner that had been in tow of the tug, J.F. Dayan, at the time of her
sinking. She was built by Captain E.B. Graham in Green Bay, 1876, and sunk
December 2, 1882. The vessel sprung a leak and went down so fast that Captain
Thor Anderson and his two crewmates could not clear the lifeboat from davits in
time and found themselves floundering in the water. No one was lost. The May
Queen sits in 80 feet of water. She was overloaded with salted fish.
